In 2003, the Clyde Waterfront Regeneration Initiative was born
to rejuvenate a 20km stretch of land along the River Clyde.
It's the biggest regeneration project ever undertaken in
Scotland, with £3.5 billion invested, creating 20,000 new
jobs, 9,500 new homes and 320,000m2 of new commercial
One example of the project's success is the International
Financial Services District (IFSD), which was created to generate
an attractive area for world-leading financial services companies
in Scotland. Today, thanks to the project, over £1 billion has been
invested mainly by the private sector in new office buildings,
hotels, shops and apartments within the IFSD and many world class
financial companies have been attracted to Glasgow, creating over
15,000 new jobs.
To put it simply, you could say that the Clyde Waterfront
Regeneration Initiative and the IFSD Glasgow in
particular have done rather well.
