2012 will provide new opportunities for our nation's creative sector to shine as the Year of Creative Scotland gets going.

The Year of Creative Scotland 2012 is the beginning of an exciting cultural programme of activity and promotion. The focus on creativity will embrace London 2012 and look towards Glasgow 2014. It's a chance to spotlight, celebrate and promote Scotland's cultural and creative strengths on a world stage, and to position Scotland as one of the world's most creative nations to audiences at home and across the world.

Through a dynamic year-long programme of activity Year of Creative Scotland will celebrate our world-class events, festivals, artistic and cultural heritage. Creative Scotland will invest £6.5 million from National Lottery funds into making the Year an outstanding experience for audiences and artists.

As well as new initiatives, the Year of Creative Scotland will showcase the range and breadth of quality artistic and cultural output produced every year: year in, year out.  Andrew Dixon, Chief Executive, Creative Scotland said, "The Year of Creative Scotland 2012 is a unique opportunity to celebrate the huge strength of Scotland as a creative nation. Scotland's talent reaches into every home and in the next year will play out on an international stage."

More announcements of projects and programmes for the Year of Creative Scotland 2012 are expected throughout the year.
