Early e-book success

05 December 2011

Young Scottish company Giglets is getting established in the work of e-books, making its mark with illustrated and condensed versions of the classics.

Set up by recent graduate Craig Johnstone, Giglets publishes illustrated and adapted classic ebooks for children and adults. Based in Darvel, Ayrshire, the business idea developed when Johnstone was at school, but is now taking roots, with 2 new e-books published each month, an plans to develop further.

The idea is to condense the classics into illustrated 15-minute reads, with intentions to include audio and animation in the months ahead.

The company, which is profiled in the SME focus in The Herald, has seen early success working with Gaelic Book Council and Storlann, the organisation responsible for Gaelic education in Scotland, to produce the first Gaelic e-books for the education market.

Giglets is also working with Apple Inc's education team.

Products are currently available to the consumer market in 32 countries via iTunes, Amazon and Kobo.
